Tips for Gorgeous Outdoor Photos

Tips for Gorgeous Outdoor Photos

Being outdoors in the summer sun is a great setting for some fun photos of you and your loved ones. In order to get the best results from your session, there are a few things to consider before you step in front of your photographer’s lens.
1.    Wear sunscreen. If you are going to be out in the sun for a long period of time, especially with children, sunscreen is a must. It can however also make your skin look quite shiny. If possible apply makeup that has built-‐in sunscreen otherwise apply some powered concealer to spots that look especially oily.
2.    Bring along some tissues & concealer powder. Unless it's a cool day, you're probably going to sweat. Bring along some tissues for dabbing off the sweat and your concealer powder for touch ups.
3.    There might be bugs. Photos in the woods can be romantic and beautiful but depending on the time of day and the area you’re in, it could mean swatting away flies and mosquitos. A little bug repellent can make your photo session a lot more pleasant
4.    Stay hydrated. Posing for pictures may not seem like hard work but in the hot sun, you don't have to move around much to be affected by the heat. Make sure you bring lots of water and other hydrating beverages, and drink up often.
5.    Apply makeup sparingly. You want that fresh, sun kissed look in your photos so don’t overdo your makeup application.
6.    What you wear matters. Choose clothing that is comfortable and fits your body shape. Feel free to incorporate accessories such as a hat but don’t let it overwhelm the photo.
7.    Choose your time of day. Since midday can be scorching, plan your shoot early in the morning or just before the sun sets to avoid looking hot and flustered in your photos.

My Top 4 Goals for 2018

My Top 4 Goals for 2018

When the New Year rolls around, many of us make New Year's Resolution's and then by the first week of February, we give up. This year I am committing to make these 4 goals a reality this year.

1. Book 10 Weddings: Whether your wedding is this year (2018) or in the next two years (2019 or 2020), allow me to capture your special day from all of the little details to your first kiss as a new couple! I would love to sit down with you and go over exactly what you want for your wedding day. I believe in offering a unique client experience to help showcase your love.

2. Photograph a Beach Destination Wedding: My suitcase is all packed, ready to go wherever you and your loved ones are going to celebrate your wedding! It has always been a dream of mine to travel to a warm location and cover someone's wedding in the sand, on the beach with that perfect blue ocean in the background. Anyone having a destination wedding? I would be happy to capture your special day!

3. Launch a Senior Rep Program: This has been an idea in the making for the past couple of months. I want to be able to offer Senior Portrait Sessions to High School Seniors in Peekskill, NY and Cortlandt Manor, NY. I will be accepting applications for Senior Reps in the next few weeks and excited to add this program to Melinda Anita Photography!

4. Start Planning My Own Wedding: I can't forget about my own wedding! I want to get some things underway, like deciding where and when we would like to have our wedding and begin looking for wedding vendors! So excited for this upcoming chapter in our lives!

A Brooklyn Love Story- Styled Shoot - Deity NYC

A Brooklyn Love Story- Styled Shoot - Deity NYC

It has always been a dream of mine to put together a styled shoot. I had seen so many of them on various social media platforms and thought it would be a great idea to plan one, but I didn't know where to start.

It started off with being a member of the Facebook group "Styled Shoots Across America" where Heather Benge, founder and event planner was on a mission to plan styled shoots in every state. Being in New York, there weren't any styled shoots that were being hosted in our area. So one day, I wrote a post in the group and asked if anyone wanted to collaborate on a styled shoot in New York. I had a lot of responses and teamed up with Yvonne Unubun, creative owner of Events by Mayven  and we started the legwork. We sent emails out to everyone interested, found an amazing venue- Deity in Brooklyn, NY that was willing to host and began the search for wedding vendors to partner with us on this styled shoot.

We started with a mood board of blush, burgundy and gold and reached out to vendors to help us collaborate. Haley Simon, Marketing Manager of Deity Brooklyn gave Yvonne and I a private tour of Deity and began discussing how we could use the unique venue space for our shoot. Ellen Liu Chan of Designs by Ellen provided the calligraphy and stationary, as well as modeled with her husband. Ellen also showcased her new "Just Married" Jacket that brides can rent out for the week of their wedding. Latisha Joseph of Bluu Ribbon Events joined our team to help with design and set-up of the different stations. Irene O'Brien provided flawless Makeup and Hair Artistry for our bridal party. LaParis Phillips of Brooklyn Blooms NYC provided an amazing centerpiece, hanging floral backdrop and bouquets for our styled shoot. Groomsday Gifts provided a handsome collection of groomsman gifts for us to showcase. BCakeNY provided an over the top cake with the outline of the Brooklyn Bridge on it.

December 10th finally came and we were so happy with the way things turned out. We had 7 photographers participate, including myself and the images that came out of this shoot were absolutely stunning! I am thankful to all of the wedding vendors that participated to make this vision that I had come to life! Here are some of my pictures from this shoot!
